4 Amazing Thai Fried Rice (Khao Pad ข้าวผัด)
Hello Farang friends. Fried rice is one of the very common menus that is available in most Thai restaurants. Thailand is the land of food, we have plenty of delicious food and fried rice is one of those. For Farangs who are new in Thailand and still not so used to Thai menus, fried rice is one of my recommended menus for you. So, what are 5 amazing fried rice? Let’s get started!

Thai: Khao pad ข้าวผัด
As you can see the position of adjective in the Thai language and the English language is the opposite. So, if you will call Thai food, just put the adjective in front of the noun for example grilled pork = Moo Ping (หมูปิ้ง), fried chicken (ไก่ทอด), etc. Wish you have fun learning the Thai language!
Egg Fried Rice (Khao Pad Kai ข้าวผัดไข่)
This is the most common fired rice in Thailand. It is egg fried rice which of course adds eggs in and together with some other meat. The most popular meat is pork, shrimp, crab, fermented pork, and Chinese sausage. When those meat are added in, we will call it as those meat fried rice, for example, pork fried rice (Khao pad moo ข้าวผัดหมู), Khao pad koong (ข้าวผัดกุ้ง).
For Farangs who are new in Thailand, this menu is recommended for you. It has a neutral taste that is suitable for those who don’t eat the spicy or intense taste of food. Try it and you will know how amazing Thai food is.
And for those who want to add more taste to the fried rice, you can eat it in Thai style. Add the fish sauce with chili. Most of Thais add this kind of sauce to many kinds of food, it really tops up the taste and creates amazing taste and scent to the food. You should try it.
American Fried Rice (Khao Pad American ข้าวผัดอเมริกัน)
This kind of fried rice is very interesting; it’s named as American fried rice but you can’t actually find this in America. The history of this fried rice is long time ago since the period of Vietnam was. During that time there were a lot of American soldiers in Thailand.
Thai people saw that American soldiers like to eat ketchup and sausage. Therefore, we apply the ingredients that American soldiers like to Thai menu. And then tadaaa we created “American Fried Rice”.
American friend rice contains friend rice and side dishes. The fried rice is rice stir-fried with ketchup, oyster sauce, soy sauce, a little bit of sugar. And we add some onions, sometimes also add baby corn and long beans in. This fried rice is served with 2 main side dishes which are sunny side up egg and sausages. This is one of my favorite fried rice, it tastes amazing and it shows a good combination between eastern and western food culture.
Tom Yum Fried Rice (Khao Pad Tom Yum ข้าวผัดต้มยำ)
As you know that the most popular Thai food is Tom Yum. Tom Yum is a kind of soup that is sour and spicy. The rich taste by a lot of Thai herbs, hotness from fresh chili, sharp sour taste by fresh lime, all of the best taste of Thai herbs are gathered in this bowl of soup.
That is the definition Tom Yum soup, but we also have the dried version of Tom Yum, which is Tom Yum Fired rice. The rice is stir-fried with all those herbs and chili paste, added sourness by a splash of fresh lime juice. The meat that is added mostly is seafood just like in Tom Yum soup.
This is a new taste of fried rice. For those who want to try Thai food in a single dish menu, this one is recommended. You will find out that, fried rice doesn’t mean only neutral taste food, it can become rich in taste too.
Shrimp Paste Rice (Khao Klook Kapi ข้าวคลุกกะปิ)
Shrimp Paste Rice or Khao Klook Kapi is one of the dish that shows how elegant Thai cuisine is. In order to prepare this dish, there are so many steps and ingredient and it is so time consuming. But after all, those efforts are worth it to make.
The main ingredient of this dish is rice stir-fried with shrimp paste. The shrimp paste is stir-fried in hot oil for a good time to bring out the best of the scent, then rice is added in and mixes well with the well-scented shrimp paste. This rice is served with plenty of tasty side dishes.
The side dishes contain, egg strips, sour mango strips, finely chopped long beans, slices of red onions, sweeten pork which requires time and effort to cook, and lastly is chili to add up the spice and hot taste.
To eat this, we mix everything together and it will create many kinds of taste in one bite. The rice itself contains a little salty from shrimp paste that comes along with the signature scent. Sour mango aside from adding the sourness, it also cut out the smelly scent of the shrimp paste. Red onions here are not spicy, if its slices thinly the taste will be sweet and it also helps to cut off the smelly scent of shrimp paste.
Sweeten pork add sweetness to this dish to help it’s not too salty. While long bean and egg strips gives neutral taste to balance up all the tastes in a bite.
For those who likes spicy, chili will greatly add up the spice and the hotness of chili gives another feeling for this dish.
These side dishes all mix together bring out the signature taste which is unique and no dish can compete with this one. For those who want to see the beauty of Thai cuisine, this dish should not be skipped. Try it at least once!
